Program Overview
Purpose
To contribute to effective and sustainable organisational development by preparing competent, ethical and professionally grounded human resource practitioners capable of managing people, strengthening workplaces and supporting institutional performance.
Goal
To equip students with contemporary knowledge, practical skills and professional values in human resource management, employee relations, workforce planning, organisational behaviour, digital HR, leadership and evidence-based decision-making.
Developing People. Strengthening Workplaces. Transforming Organisations.
Every successful organisation depends on people who possess the right competencies, understand their responsibilities and are supported to perform at their best. Human resource management provides the systems, policies and professional practices through which organisations recruit talent, develop employees, manage performance, strengthen workplace relationships and prepare for future workforce needs.
The workplace is changing rapidly. Digital technologies, artificial intelligence, global competition, flexible working arrangements, changing employee expectations and new skills requirements are transforming how organisations manage their people. Digitalisation also increases the importance of continuous learning, reskilling and workforce adaptability.
The Bachelor of Science in Human Resource Management at the Pan African Institute for Development – East and Southern Africa (PAID–ESA) prepares students to become competent and ethical HR practitioners capable of supporting both organisational performance and employee well-being.
Built upon more than 60 years of Pan-African academic experience, the programme combines human resource management, development studies, organisational behaviour, international business, statistics, operations research, digital HR applications, leadership, emotional intelligence, office management, communication and applied research.
Students learn through organisational case studies, HR tool-design exercises, digital applications, workforce-data analysis, recruitment and performance simulations, group projects and an independent research project. This applied approach helps students connect academic concepts to actual workplace challenges.
The programme reflects the contemporary understanding that people practice must be integrated across the employee lifecycle. Current professional frameworks include workforce planning, capability development, performance management, employee well-being, inclusion, flexible working, recruitment, data analysis and workplace regulation as fundamental areas of practice.
Students are also introduced to the growing role of workforce information and human-capital reporting. ISO 30414:2025 identifies workforce composition, diversity, productivity, health and well-being, leadership, engagement, ethics, recruitment, succession planning, turnover and skills development as important reporting areas.
Graduates leave the programme prepared to support recruitment, employee development, performance management, workplace communication, international HR operations, organisational projects and evidence-based decision-making across public, private and development-sector institutions.
At PAID–ESA, students become part of a Pan-African academic community committed to professional excellence, ethical leadership, decent work, human dignity and sustainable organisational development.
