Program Overview
Purpose
To contribute to Africa's sustainable development by developing highly competent entrepreneurs, enterprise managers, and cooperative leaders capable of driving economic transformation.
Goal
To strengthen learners' competencies in entrepreneurship, enterprise development, cooperative management, innovation, financial management, and organisational leadership.
Build Businesses. Lead Organisations. Transform Africa
Africa's economic transformation will be driven by visionary entrepreneurs, innovative enterprises, and professionally managed cooperatives capable of creating sustainable employment, generating wealth, and strengthening resilient communities. As governments, development institutions, and the private sector increasingly recognise entrepreneurship as a catalyst for inclusive growth, the demand for highly skilled enterprise leaders has never been greater.
The Bachelor of Science (B.Sc. Top-Up) in Entrepreneurship, Enterprise and Cooperative Management, offered by the Pan African Institute for Development – East and Southern Africa (PAID–ESA), has been designed to prepare a new generation of business leaders equipped with the knowledge, practical skills, and strategic vision needed to establish, manage, and grow successful enterprises across Africa and beyond.
Drawing upon more than 60 years of Pan-African excellence in higher education and capacity development, the programme provides an interdisciplinary learning experience that combines entrepreneurship, business management, finance, marketing, innovation, cooperative governance, organisational leadership, and sustainable development. Students acquire both analytical and practical competencies that enable them to respond effectively to today's rapidly changing economic and business environment.
The curriculum is intentionally practice-oriented. Throughout the programme, students engage in business case studies, enterprise simulations, applied projects, collaborative learning, and a supervised professional internship that bridges theory with practice. This experiential approach strengthens critical thinking, problem-solving, leadership, communication, and decision-making skills while preparing graduates to deliver immediate value within organisations or as founders of their own enterprises.
Graduates of the programme are prepared to lead private enterprises, cooperatives, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), social enterprises, public institutions, non-governmental organisations, financial institutions, and international development agencies. They are equally equipped to create innovative businesses that generate employment, foster inclusive economic development, and contribute meaningfully to Africa's long-term prosperity.
At PAID–ESA, education extends beyond the classroom. Students become part of a vibrant Pan-African academic community that promotes innovation, ethical leadership, professional excellence, and sustainable development. Supported by experienced faculty members, practitioners, and an expanding professional network across Africa, graduates leave the programme with the confidence and competencies to transform ideas into successful enterprises and opportunities into lasting impact.
