PAID-ESA commemorates Africa Freedom Day 2026 by reaffirming its six-decade commitment to people-centered development, Pan-African solidarity, institutional transformation, and Africa’s development from the inside-out.
On the occasion of Africa Freedom Day 2026, the Pan African Institute for Development – East & Southern Africa (PAID-ESA) joins African institutions, governments, scholars, diplomats, development practitioners, and citizens across the continent and the diaspora in commemorating the enduring aspirations of African unity, dignity, self-determination, and transformational development.
For more than six decades, PAID has remained committed to the intellectual, institutional, and human transformation of Africa through a development philosophy rooted in people-centered advancement, Pan-African solidarity, and responsible leadership. Since 1979, PAID-ESA has consistently upheld the conviction that sustainable development cannot merely be imported or externally engineered, but must emerge from the transformation of the human person, the renewal of values through concertation, and the strengthening of the peoples’ capacities and institutions.
At the heart of the PAID philosophy remains a fundamental principle: development is from the inside-out. Africa’s progress will continue to depend not only on infrastructure, policies, and economic systems, but also on the empowerment of minds, the restoration of confidence in African potential, and the ability of Africans to shape their own developmental destiny with excellence, integrity, innovation, and collective responsibility.
As the continent navigates complex global realities and unprecedented opportunities, Africa Freedom Day remains a moment of reflection on the ideals of freedom, peace, people-centered emancipation, social cohesion, regional integration, and sustainable prosperity for all African peoples.
PAID-ESA therefore reaffirms its unwavering commitment to contributing to an Africa that is peaceful, knowledge-driven, institutionally resilient, economically transformative, and globally respected.
May this commemorative day continue to inspire renewed continental cooperation and a shared commitment to building the Africa envisioned by its founding generations and entrusted to future ones.
Happy Africa Freedom Day.
