
EVENT OVERVIEW
On the occasion of the International Day of Avoidable Deaths, this high-level webinar brings together policy experts, humanitarian practitioners, researchers, and development actors to examine the structural and policy drivers of avoidable deaths along Africa’s irregular migration routes.
The session will provide a critical platform for dialogue, knowledge exchange, and practical reflection on how migration governance, humanitarian systems, and development interventions can better prevent loss of life and promote safer migration pathways.
This event contributes to advancing global commitments under the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction (2015–2030) and broader human security and protection agendas.
OBJECTIVE
To critically analyse migration policies and operational gaps contributing to avoidable deaths in Africa, and to identify actionable strategies for prevention, protection, and safer migration governance.
