The Pan African Institute for Development – East and Southern Africa (PAID–ESA) and Swastik EduStart are pleased to announce a Certification Course in GIS & Remote Sensing for Environment & Climate Science, scheduled to run from 19 to 30 January 2026. Delivered fully online, this intensive program is designed to strengthen practical geospatial skills for environmental analysis, climate science, disaster risk reduction, and natural resource management.
The course emphasizes hands-on, data-driven learning, enabling participants to work directly with satellite imagery and climate datasets while developing applied projects aligned with real-world decision-making needs. Participants will gain practical experience using leading geospatial platforms such as ArcGIS, QGIS, and Google Earth Engine, and analyze datasets including Landsat, Sentinel, MODIS, CHIRPS, and WorldClim.
Key learning areas include land use and land cover mapping, change detection, climate trend and drought analysis, environmental indices, and risk mapping for floods, wildfires, and landslides. The program concludes with a portfolio-ready final project, allowing participants to graduate with a certified output directly applicable to professional and research contexts.
This professional certification is delivered by PAID, an international INGO with over six decades of continental experience in higher education, capacity building, and professional development across Africa. The course runs for two weeks (40 hours), with live sessions held from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM (WAT), making it accessible to working professionals across regions. The total course fee is USD 250.
